Finding clarity in contradictions.
I’m Lit Meng (Robert) Tang — an educator, independent researcher, and co-founder of danceScape in Burlington, Canada.
I spend my time helping people learn things they once thought they couldn’t — whether that’s finding the beat in music, moving with confidence on a dance floor, or making sense of complex ideas about time, learning, coordination, and AI.
With my wife and partner Beverley Cayton-Tang, I’ve built danceScape as a learning community focused on Ballroom, Salsa/Latin, Wedding Dance preparation, danceTONE cardio fitness, and danceFLOW qigong / tai chi. We don’t teach performance — we focus on how people learn, connect, and coordinate through movement.
Alongside this work, I conduct independent research through the Tang Papers, an open research program exploring how representation, rhythm, and coordination shape understanding across complex systems.
Much of this inquiry returns to a simple question:
Why do some things feel difficult when they shouldn’t — and why do other things suddenly “click”?
Across fields as different as dance, language learning, artificial intelligence, and physics interpretation, similar patterns appear repeatedly. Confusion often arises not from lack of information, but from representational mismatch — especially when numerical descriptions (counts, metrics, quantities) are applied to phenomena that depend on timing, coordination, and alignment.
On Medium, I explore that question out loud.
These essays complement — but do not replace — my formal research publications. They are reflections, experiments, and translations, sitting between lived experience and formal inquiry.
They are not final answers.
They are attempts to make complicated ideas clearer, more human, and occasionally surprising.
